"Matt Lambert’s work explores bodies as hybrid forms ‘that cross dress, genetically mutate or are simply hermaphroditic and defy perceived binaries.’ Often, such queered bodies are explored through metamorphoses and elaborate costuming that draw on fantasy and mythology. The Joust transforms two male bodies into battling stags, but rather than show the two engaged in an alpha male confrontation over a female, Lambert renders the situation deeply erotic and mysterious. The implication is that supposed ‘natural’ laws of masculinity are complicated by desires and sensual drives." -Paddle8
